The First Qualified Blackjack Performer – Eleanore Dumont
The first female celebrity Blackjack entertainer wasn’t anyone else, the legendary Eleanore Dumont. Born in France and brought to the harsh Gold mines in America, their refined European manners. A professional dealer, she established gambling establishments during the heydays of the Gold Rush in mining towns throughout the West. There was no room for males to curse or be unkept in her establishment, and strangely the way she did it, women were not allowed to play at the tables.
Never a dull person, she kept the men out of her way when she accumulated her fortune. She was in the lust of a con artist who would eat every penny and sell her property.
She rebuilt her establishment, but as she grew older, she lost a lot of the attraction and mystery that had been a draw for many gamblers that contributed to her success. As she grew older and entered her child-bearing years, she developed big facial hair and was referred to as in her back, obviously, Madame Mustache. The Madame was more a result of her decision to venture into prostitution, operating the brothel and gambling house during her final years.
